An Abandoned House: Pictures of the Eerie Beauty

Abandoned Houses in Virginia

Have you ever been walking around in your city or exploring in the woods when you came upon an abandoned house? These can range from creepy to dangerously scary. This is what we are going to focus on in today’s article as we take a look in the southern parts of America to find some of the most mysterious abandoned houses on Earth. Join us on our journey to seeing some of the forgotten and empty places that give you the chills. Thankfully you don’t have to travel to them in order to hear about them!

Virginia Plantation Mansion:

Abandoned House
Abandoned House

This house was built in Virginia during the year of 1824 and was once a part of a 1,000-acre plot of land. This house and land were originally owned by a minister but was finally fully abandoned in 2016. The people that were in this house just prior to it being fully abandoned were attempting to remake this house into a new beautiful home but bit off more than they could chew.

This mansion sits upon a slight hill in the middle of a large field with scattered trees. As we stated before, this mansion was once a plantation house on over one thousand acres. There are also several smaller structures on the property that are far more run down than the main mansion on the property. These other buildings are found behind the main house and deep inside the trees on the property. All of this information certainly adds to the mystery factor and is a little bit on the creepy side as well.

 Inside of the Abandoned House:

When you enter the house, you are met with a tall staircase running straight up into the second floor of the home. It is ornate, with wood carvings all along the side up the entire run of the stairs. The walls are blue, and the floors are bare and dirty. Throughout the whole house the floors have clearly been stripped of whatever flooring there was initially.

 The First Floor:

Once you walk a few steps into the main entrance of the house you are able to turn to your left and see into the main living room. The trim is white, and the walls are blue in a similar fashion to the entrance room. There is still a small chandelier in the center of the room, but there is no furniture at all. There is, however, a great deal of dirt and dust all over the place. There is also a decently large fireplace found in the middle of this room.

Abandoned House

You can move forward through this room right into the next room of the house. The next room is the dinning room, and the color scheme changes dramatically. This room is red and white and reminds us of an old timey barber shop in a way. There is an ample amount of natural light throughout the house, but even more so within this room particularly. This room actually has some wood flooring still, and yet another brick fireplace. Even the doors are white and red in this room.

Abandoned House

As you turn to the right you will head through a pair of large double doors into the kitchen area. This room also has some type of flooring, even if it is of the vinyl variety. The cabinetry and island are all red with white trim as well as the rest of the kitchen and dinning room setup. There is a decently large island in the middle of the kitchen that one could only assume was put in during more recent years by people attempting to renovate the house.

Abandoned House

As you continue to work your way around the house in the same direction you come into the utility room. This room has the same pattern of vinyl flooring but also has wood paneling on the walls.  Connected to this washroom or utility room is a bathroom. This bathroom is complete with pink cabinets under the sink and walls that are also pink and yellow. Backing out of this bathroom and turning right will lead you back to the entrance of the house.

Abandoned House

If, instead, you turned to your right when you entered the house you would find the other side of the first floor. The first room that you enter is darker than most of the other rooms in this house and the walls are painted brown with white trim. Yet again, you can find another staircase that leads its way up to the second floor.

Turning left and moving forward you will see one of the nicest rooms in the house, and it seems to be the actual location within the house that the people renovating the house chose to primarily live and sleep in. The doors and trim are painted black, and the walls have an older real wood style look to them and another fireplace as well. This room has a nice aesthetic and really shows a rustic vibe. This room will also connect you to the bathroom that we visited from the previous sections in this article.

The Second Floor (First Staircase Access):

Making your way up to the second floor of this house you will notice that the staircase itself actually leans a little bit. This doesn’t seem safe and absolutely adds to the creepy and scary factor of the house in our opinion.

Abandoned House

Turning to your right you will see one of the first rooms of the second floor and it is dirty and dingy, even when compared to the rest of the rooms in the house. Once again there is a fireplace, and at this point I am starting to wonder if there will be very many rooms in this house that don’t have a fireplace. The windows are boarded up and the walls are falling apart in this room.

Abandoned House

At the end of this room, you have a smaller entrance way into a half attic half study looking room that looks to be pulled straight out of a scary movie. The creep factor of this room is set straight to 100 as there is a single window dimly shinning light through onto the dark dirty floor inside of an old spooky room.

The Second Floor (Second Staircase Access):

The other staircase on the other side of the house is the only way in which you can access the other parts of the second floor. It is a much smaller and compact stairway leading up to the second section of the second floor and has a completely different feel to it.

Abandoned House

This set of stairs leads directly into a large bedroom that is painted pink and white. There really isn’t too much to be said about this section of the house other than it is creepy because it looks like a room from a haunted house movie. You know, one where the ghost that is haunting people is a little girl that passed away inside of the house? Yeah, that kind of movie.

 The Basement:

Abandoned House

The stairs leading you down into the basement are similar to the others in the way that they do not look clean nor sturdy in any way. The basement is incredibly dark and essentially puts you directly into the pitch black.

In this basement there are said to have been chains and shackles that were used to keep slaves under lock and key. During the time that this house has been abandoned, however, the pieces of haunting slavery equipment have been stolen and taken off site.

The Governor’s mansion:

Abandoned House

This abandoned house was bult in 1835 and was home to the governor. It sits on top of, what was once, over 4,000 acres of land connected to the house itself. The particular house that we are going to look at now is well known as a haunted location, and there have been many accounts of witnesses seeing the governor himself walking around the property and inside of the house.

Also found on this property is an actual family cemetery, which immediately ups the ante on the whole haunted and creepy situation.

Abandoned House

In a similar fashion to the last house in this article, this one was also a known plantation house at one point in time. This means that there were slaves in and around the house itself. Certainly, if you believe in spirits and hauntings, knowing that there were slaves in this old creepy house would make you think that there are probably at least a few ghosts roaming the grounds.

Inside of this Haunted and Abandoned House:

Abandoned House

Once you enter the house you are met with an abundance of items. This house isn’t empty like the last one was, as it is nearly filled to the gills with statues, furniture, junk, and more. It seems as if there have been squatters or something living in this house for some time, because there are a lot of items that don’t exactly make much sense to be inside. Another possible explanation is that someone currently owns the house and is simply using it as storage.

Abandoned House

There are many many ornate dresses kept inside of this house, and a lot of them have price tags still on them. They are incredibly expensive, and there are possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of these dresses to be found in total.

There is also a cemetery on the property which actually is home to the gravesite of the governor himself. These graves date back to the late 18th century and is the exact reason why we will never be visiting it in person. It includes the grave of a 1-year-old child born in 1819… Can you blame me?

Recap & Summary:

Well then! You got to see a couple of the creepier and abandoned houses that are in the southern part of America. One of the houses was shown an attempt at being renovated, and the other one is oddly a possible storage location for expensive dresses. As weird as these are, they get even weirder as they are said to be haunted and unsafe. The second house even had a cemetery in it that had the grave and tombstone for a 1-year-old baby from 1819! If that isn’t creepy, I don’t know what is. Hopefully you enjoyed this article and the journey that we took together into these abandoned houses.
