The only other law in place on human bones is the protection of native American remains. There are only three states in the United States that it is illegal to ship to, or from when it comes to human bones. These states are Tennessee, Louisiana, and Georgia. This means that if you live in one of these states, it will not be legal for you to purchase and receive human bones. While there are many different types of animal bones that are found for sale in our shop, domesticated. Animals are some of the most easily sourced and cheapest options to buy. Cat Skull:

The artistic value in owning a cat skull is for its addition into the aesthetic that you are trying to obtain in your home, business, or other areas that you frequent. In the same way that an elk skull fits in wonderfully with the rustic décor, this type of animal bone with make a perfect addition as well. An added bonus within this specific use is its abundant availability to be an addition to gothic décor due to the black cat creepiness factor.

Not only can you make it a piece of your home or office as it is, but you can also paint and/or carve these cat skulls as well in order to really make them stand out among the rest of the pieces.

The shock and awe for most people to see that you have a real-life cat skull on a desk or hanging up on a wall is priceless, to say the least. Not to mention if you take any artistic liberties with it and really make it stand out as your own.

In ancient Egypt cats were seen as incredibly important animals and beings. The cats were mummified along with their owners bodies and they were actually buried right next to them. This was thought to bring an added bit of protection into the afterlife for those that were buried with their cats.

Dog Skull:

While many of the dog skulls that we hear about people having are actually from their past pets, you can also have one of your own from an unrelated animal. If you are a veterinary student in training or you work at a zoo it may be interesting for you to have an actual dog skull in your possession for you to study first hand. This is nearly impossible to put a dollar value amount on due to its significance in providing you with a tangible source to research and study.

Not only this, but if you are a dog lover you may just want to show off the powerful spiritualness of the remains from these amazing creatures. These are, after all, mans best friend.

It absolutely would make a perfect addition to any bone collection or skull collection that you already have started as not very many people actually have a skull like this in their possession.

Wildlife Bones and Skulls:

Wolf Skulls:

While dogs are mans best friend, a wolf is the ancestor of these animals. It holds an incredible amount of spiritual significance throughout many different cultures and belief systems. The wolf skull is symbolic and has massive amounts of spiritual significance in Native American culture, Celtic culture, Norse mythology, and Shamanism. The wolves are viewed as power totem animals and their skulls are often used in ceremonies and rituals throughout many of these cultures and backgrounds.

In Celtic culture the wolf was seen as a symbol of fertility and it was closely associated with the moon.

In Norse mythology the wolf was actually a prominent figure within the spiritualistic beliefs as Odin (the all father) was consistently shown in imagery to be accompanied by two wolves. The wolf was a sign of strength, cleverness, and loyalty.

Many Native American tribes saw the wolf as a spiritual guide, and thus the animal was crucial and revered for its role in their belief system.

All of this is to say that there is certainly a great deal of meaning behind actually having and owning one of these wolf skulls, but if you just think they are pretty and want one… That’s fair too.

Coyote Skulls:

See this product in the original post

If you are of Native American background, you are most likely going to have strong ties to the Earth and all that inhabit it. All of the animals in nature stand for something and are powerful in their own right. The Coyote is no different in this regard. The coyote has been a prominent figure in the Native American culture and spirituality for many years. It is seen as a sort of trickster and, much like the wolf, is known to be a particularly powerful spiritual guide. It is seen as a symbol of wisdom, adapting, and surviving.

The Aztec people associated the God Tezcatlipoca with coyotes as this deity was actually shown in imagery to have coyote like features. This culture also placed the coyote into the same category as the planet Venus, making it of celestial importance as well to this civilization.

The Hopi culture specifically saw the coyote as a figure and symbol for the life and death cycle. This is where the meaning actually stands out the most for the Hopi people as the rest of the meaning is very similar to the general beliefs of the Native American people.

In Inca mythology the coyote was seen as a messenger between the Earth realm and the spiritual realm.

Again though, if you just think that they are pretty, we don’t blame you.

Deer Skulls:

Many Native American tribes saw the deer as a being of grace and gentleness. This animal was seen as a symbol of sensitivity and peacefulness. The same as the coyote for the Inca people, the deer was seen as a messenger between the Earth and spiritual realms.

In Celtic mythology deer were closely associated with the forest and “the fairy realm”. How mystical and magical does that sound? It was seen as a symbol of beauty, fertility, and quickness.

In Japanese culture the deer is actually a sacred animal and it is shown in numerous art pieces and has been written into many books as a result. Also, in Shintoism, the deer is the messenger of the Gods. This religion is known to be a native religion of Japan, and thus makes the deer immeasurably important.

In Christian beliefs the deer is seen as a symbol of piety and virtue. It is also often used as imagery to symbolically show Christ in a way.

Elk Skulls:

An Elk skull can be used for many things around the house in décor, art, rituals, and learning. When using Elk skulls as decoration, they go perfectly with any rustic décor set up. Just imagine a log cabin type of home with taxidermy all over the walls and a few elk skulls scattered throughout on the walls as well. Not to mention painting them, which is our favorite here at Chelsidermy taxidermy and oddities. Duh : )

If you are an artist you could use these in order to paint your own designs on or even to carve into. You could also add these onto a sculpture piece and make it unique and something that is not usually done by any other artist.

While these are great conversation starter pieces to have in your home, they also can actually be used in a constructive manner for spiritual folks. If you believe in Native American traditions, there are a lot of different rituals and spiritual practices that you can do with these elk skulls and bones. You can honor the animal and perform cultural ceremonies in order to call upon its spirit for blessings and healing powers. The elk is known to be a symbol of strength within the Native American culture.

Fox Skulls:

A fox skull is a great addition to any animal bone collection, or bone collection in her real for that matter. The Japanese, Chinese, and Scandinavian cultures all consider the fox to be of major importance in spirituality and mythology. The Native American also held this animal to high levels of importance and associated it with agility, cleverness, and the ability to adapt to any situation.

In Japanese culture the fox is seen as a powerful spirit called the Kitsune. These Kitsune are known to be both good and bad in different times and for different reasons. They are a symbol of illusions, wisdom, and transforming. Just like some of the other animals in this article, the fox is seen as a bit of a trickster animal.

In Chinese mythology the fox is closely related to the Goddess Xiwangmu which was the Queen mother of the West. Not only this, but the fox was also closely related to the fire element and was seen as a powerful symbol for fertility.

All of this being said, there are clearly many uses for a fox skull in your collection or to place up on the mantle in order to bring you great spiritual guidance and power.

Last, but not least, the fox was seen in Scandinavian culture and folklore as being closely related to Odin. They were seen as mischievous creatures and supplied a great deal of cunning in the stories within the culture.

See this product in the original post

It is legal in both the state of Florida and the country of America to buy, sell, and possess wildebeest bones. For this reason, we will offer the bones and skulls of these animals in our shop. It will be our honor to sell you a wildebeest skull.

There are so many uses for a wildebeest skull, both in modern times and dating back throughout history. These bones have been used for, and can still be used for, jewelry, tools, art, and rituals and ceremonies. As a part of a ritual or ceremony, these wildebeest bones have been used for divination and many other aspects of spiritual beliefs. These bones are used in a divination process by throwing them in a similar fashion to dice and observing their positions and orientation, in order to achieve insight into someone’s future. This has usually been a part of African cultures throughout history.

Not only this, but the bones of a wildebeest have also been used in musical practices and dance throughout time. They have been made into wind instruments, rattles, and the bodies of drums to name a few.

These bones have also been known to be used in protective amulet, and spiritualistic jewelry to be worn.

These wildebeest bones have also been used ceremonies and rituals in order to honor ancient ancestors at alters.

Above, and to your right, you can see a product within our store that is a bag of animal bones. This bag of animal bones could be used in a similar fashion for a divination ritual.

Water Buffalo Skulls:

While the water buffalo is considered to be a sacred animal in countries, such as India, and thus, there are prohibitions, on trading of these, there are other countries in which it is legal to buy and/or sell the bones of a water buffalo. Water buffalo are not listed in the endangered species act, and thus it is not particularly illegal to trade or possess the bones of this animal in America. This means that having a water buffalo skull is actually legal in America.

Furthermore, the possession or trade of water, buffalo skulls in the state of Florida, is legal at a state level. This means that taking into consideration, state and federal wildlife laws, we are actually able to sell water buffalo skulls in our store.

Lion Skulls:

Lions are protected under the endangered species act, and therefore it is illegal to purchase or sell bones or any parts of a lion. The only way that you can obtain or possess lion parts or bones legally is if they were acquired before lions were made in addition to the endangered species act. Not only this, but they cannot be used in a commercial sense. This means that if they are used in your home in a small way such as a piece of musical equipment or antique decor, they can sometimes be illegal.

The fact that these bones and animal parts are illegal both at a federal level and state level means that we will not be selling any of these lion skulls. Selling a lion skull is not worth jail time or major fines.

Tiger Skulls:

In the United States of America, it is illegal to acquire, possess, buy, sell, or any other form of using tiger bones. This is due to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) as well as the Lacy Act. While the endangered species act is covered in some of our other animals in this article, the Lacey act is specifically put in place to prohibit the possession or acquisition of any animal parts that are illegal at a state, federal, or international level. If there are foreign laws in place, that prohibit the possession and acquisition of the animal, it is also illegal in America to import or export to or from these locations.

For these reasons specifically CHELSIDERMY will not be selling any tiger bones. Even having a tiger skull is illegal.

Elephant Skulls:

It is currently illegal to buy and/or sell elephant bones in the United States of America. The Endangered Species Act (ESA) as well as the African Elephant Conservation Act (AECA) make it impossible to purchase or sell any and all bones from elephants in our country. Not only this, but the simple possession of these bones is illegal as well. That means that the import and export of these would fall under the prohibition in a legal sense as well.

While these are the federal laws, there are also specific state laws put into place in certain places. Specifically in our state, the state of Florida, we also have laws put into place in order to protect from this sort of acquisition specifically.

The only ways to get around this illegal aspect is if the bones are part of a museum or educational purpose that is non-for profit, or if the bones are more than 100 years old. Also, if the bones were already in possession before the ban was placed in 1976, this would also make them legal.

See this product in the original post

All of this is to say that CHELSIDERMY will not be offering any ivory or bones from elephants, rhinoceros, or the like.

While we wont be offering elephant skulls, or even tiger/lion skulls for that matter, we will be offering all sorts of other animal skulls and bones in our store right here on our website. What a great Christmas present or weird Valetines day present that would make.

Marine Life Bones:

Marine life and the remains of marine life are part of an incredibly touchy subject. In the 1970s there was an act put into place in order to protect nearly all of the marine mammals. As far as our nation’s legality is considered. For this reason, if you are ever faced with an opportunity to obtain or purchase Any marine mammal remains you should take this into heavy consideration. It is extremely legal and punishable by jail time and heavy fine.

Shark Teeth:

There are many people in the world that collect fossils and shark teeth. Shark teeth can make a great addition to any bone collection, especially animal bones. Not only this, but you can easily make beautiful pieces of jewelry from these shark teeth. Bracelets and necklaces are some of the most common pieces of jewelry that are made from shark teeth. One really unique and amazing idea is if you were to make earrings out of shark teeth. How unique would that be? You surely would have a fantastic conversation starter.

Not only could you do this with your shark teeth, but there are also many craft ideas to be had as well. Shark teeth are so widely available in their use that you can do nearly anything with them, and your imagination is the only limit. You could use them to make Christmas ornaments for your tree. You could even use them to make a great addition to your keychain if you enjoy the beach and/or surfing. My favorite idea is making these shark teeth a major addition to wind chimes.

Coral Skeletons:

Having a coral skeleton could give you many different options for crafts and home décor use. If you are an artistic person, you will surely be able to find a use for these coral skeletons easily. One such use could be in the making of jewelry. There are a seemingly endless amount of options to add coral skeletons into your home decor set up.

While these are not animal bones or actual animal skeletons, they are still well within the realm of oddities and living organism remains.

Stingray Cartilage:

You can use stingray cartilage in order to make your own artistic jewelry or your own sculptures for home decor.

Using these pieces of cartilage, you could easily make items such as small chandeliers, bookends, or wall art. You could even paint these with your own art.

Sea Turtle Shells and Bones:

In the state of Florida, it is a 3rd degree felony to buy and/or sell any part of a sea turtle. This includes its bones and shell. So no, CHELSIDERMY won’t be offering any parts of a sea turtle at any point in time.

Starfish:

See this product in the original post

While the obvious can be said, for starfish, as well as many other fossilization’s and bones from living organisms in the form of creating home, decor and/or jewelry out of them; there is much more that you can do with these fantastic little creatures as well. The unique texture and shape of a starfish lends, itself perfectly to so many different, artistic availabilities.

You can make the addition of gems, beads, and crystals in order to make this a fantastic craft piece for many different uses. Similarly, to the shark teeth, you could string this up and use it as a Christmas tree ornament. Not only this, but you could really add a lot of flair to it with crystals and gems and make it in addition to your dinner table as a centerpiece.

If you are an artist, or you just simply enjoy, creating your own art as a hobby, you could use starfish in a mixed media art piece. These beautiful little ones living creatures could add an aspect of 3-D into your painting or drawing.

Wale bones, Seal Bones, and Manatee Bones:

All of these bones are illegal to purchase and/or sell according to the “Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972”. Similarly, to the sea turtle shells and bones, we will not be offering any of these for sale in our store due to the potential for legal ramifications, including jail time, and major fines.

The illegal aspects of this reach out to the taking and possession of these bones, as well as the purchasing or selling. This means that even exporting or importing the bones without being sold or purchased is also illegal. Simply having these bones is the illegal act.
