The Founders of the Haunted Real Doll of Annabelle
Ed and Lorraine Warren were a couple that lived from the mid-1920s into the 2000s. The conjuring movies polled the majority of their inspiration from these two. This couple were the founders of the society for a psychic research in New England. Within New England, this is the longest running ghost hunting society. It is important to consider the background of these two individuals as they have written many books and claimed to have investigated over 10,000 different hunting scenarios in their lifetime. They profited greatly and made a name for their selves off of these stories. Another famous story based off of the tellings from Ed and Lorraine Warren was that of the Amityville horror. This couple was criticized widely and accused of making up stories, and lying in order to further their own monetary gain and fame.
The Story of the Real Doll of Annabelle
This story starts in the late 1960s. The warrens claimed that a young girls spirit by the name of Annabelle Higgins, possessed a Raggedy Ann doll owned by a couple of roommates. The warrens promptly took the Raggedy Ann doll, telling the pair of roommates that it was being possessed, and put it up as a major attraction inside of their occult museum.
While the Annabelle doll in the movies had the appearance of a horror movie character, the real life, Annabell doll did not. The real Annabelle doll was, as mentioned earlier in this article, a Raggedy Ann doll. Its appearance was not much different than any other Raggedy Ann doll in existence. It was not large, and it was an entirely plushy and soft doll. Nothing physically or aesthetically set this Raggedy Ann doll apart from the others, meaning, the cinematic liberties taken with the Annabell doll were numerous in this aspect.
The roommates that originally had the doll were given it by one of the roommates mothers. Once the doll was inside of the roommates home it was said to have moved to different locations of the house without anyone touching it. These roommates also stated that there would be random notes left around the house with messages on it asking for help. Both of the roommates would go on to say that not only did they not leave these notes, but they didn’t even have the type of paper that they were written on. More than this, the roommates also went on to say that the doll would actually physically attack people. On one occasion, the boyfriend of one of the roommates claims to have woken up to have several scratches all over his body.
Annabel Higgins
The two roommates decided to reach out to a medium in hopes of gaining some knowledge or help in the situation. When the medium arrived, the three of them worked together to perform a séance. As a result of this séance, the medium told the roommates that the doll was possessed by a young girl that had passed away at the age of seven near them, by the name of Annabelle Higgins. The medium told the roommates that while in contact with Annabelle it was clear that she wanted to be friends with them.
Other Happenings
Once the warrens took the doll back to their occult museum and put it on display there have been other happenings. The warrens told a story of a visitor that got too close to the doll opening the enclosure and touching it. They said that in the following hours of touching the doll, the person lost their life in a vehicle accident. Upon research, it is hard to find any evidence of this happening at all.
The daughter of Ed and Lorraine Warren refuses to look into the eyes of the Annabelle doll to this day.
Robert the Doll
In a similar way to Annabelle, the doll, Robert the doll is a haunted and said to be possessed item as well. This doll originates from the early 1900s and also has been depicted in cinema as well. Made by Steiff in 1904, this German doll was said to be the doll of a young boy that had his room tossed by Robert. The doll was said to be his favorite among his toys, but one night his parents rushed into his room, fearing for his safety when they heard a large commotion. When they entered the room, they found the doll sitting up perfectly on the end of his bed, and their son across the room hiding from it. The room was turned over as if a team of robbers had ransacked the place.
After this occasion, the boy and Robert seemingly became more connected and inseparable. The boy had full conversations with the doll, and at times the parents would hear a different voice other than their sons reply. When the parents would ask, the boy who he was talking to the boy, would promptly reply that it was Robert. The boy also stated that Robert would get angry at times and throw things. Limbs and eyes were torn from other dolls around the boys room.
The parents of the boy and the boy himself were not the only ones to witness occasions of possible hauntings from Robert. Some of the neighborhood children claim to have witnessed the doll moving to, and from windows in which they could see it. Not only this, but a plumber working on the house stated that he heard children playing, and when he went to investigate this sounds found only Robert the doll.
Robert, the doll now resides at the east Martello fort in Key West Florida. Ghosts and gravestones houses this doll, and you can actually go and visit him personally.
